Contrary to popular opinion, there are actually a lot of ways to make money as an independent artist.

Today, I want to discuss the specific actions I'm taking, which I believe will become increasingly prevalent for independent artists in the future.

What I mean concretely is the bigger project I'm building, which will allow me to compete with the big record labels as an independent artist.

I want to be completely transparent about my actions, my intentions, my goals and my methods of achieving these goals, so that you can copy them.

So what I am currently doing is building a bit of an ecosystem.

I currently have one product, which is my blueprint which you can purchase here

But I am aiming to also create a course which is a further deep dive into the exact specifics of what I go into in my blueprint and much more.

I will use this as my “funding” to finance the promotion of my music.

This approach is wonderful because it not only offers genuine value that transforms careers and enables people to fulfill their dreams of making a living from their craft, but it also grants me the freedom of time.

Since a course and a blueprint are forms of digital assets, they don't require ongoing work after completion.

So I’ve then basically got my artist's account - Jend -  which will do very little promotion of this business side.

And then I have my personal self, just Nico, who’s helping out interested/motivated independent artists who want to grow their streams and income.

I’ll keep the two mostly separate as I won’t want to get on the nerves of the people who primarily follow me for my music, but will make a post here and there reminding those interested about what I offer.

This will allow me to dedicate far more budget to the promotion of my music according to my strategy.

So how do I go about my promotion and how am I getting new customers:

Paid marketing

  • Amazon PPC ads
  • FB-ads
  • Book promotion sites
  • Google search ads

Organic marketing

  • My blog - Hopefully as I genuinely enjoy writing them but if it doesn’t perform well enough after 3-6 months I might not continue it… (always listen and be guided by the data)

  • Email-newsletter - Capturing visitors on my website who haven't made a purchase yet, and offering them a wealth of information in the hope that they'll eventually decide to buy the book or the course.

    • Linked-in - Nico Jend posts - Offering a lot of valuable content for free to establish myself as the go-to expert for advice on growing as an independent artist. It takes a lot to get a little!
    • Social media - short form content
      • Youtube shorts
      • Reels
      • TikTok
      • Once again providing value!
    • Use Twitter/reddit/quora search to find conversations about your product or niche. Engage in conversations around your topic
      • Find the real struggles people are having and shape your content around their problems. If your intention is to help rather than sell, i believe people will see this and be more attracted to your offering.

Now this is all coming from my new account which isn’t linked to my music, as I don’t want to pester my fans.

I also have other revenue streams that essentially feed off the traffic shown above. Which I’ll dive deeper into in a future blog, once I've gathered more data.

Music creation holds the paramount spot in my heart; it's the essence of who I am as a DJ/producer. The thrill of producing music is an unparalleled joy for me.

Simultaneously, I find profound fulfillment in lending a hand to others, particularly within this realm where guidance is so scarce.

This dual passion creates a harmonious balance—supporting other independent artists not only fuels my mission but will also enable me to invest further in my music and thereby level the playing field against major label backed artists.

Through this, I aspire to demonstrate to fellow independent artists out there that it is possible to maintain autonomy and achieve success.

This is a narrative I believe is underrepresented and one I'm eager to redefine.

It's essentially a self-sustaining ecosystem where helping others indirectly helps me, creating a cycle of mutual benefit and growth.

This is the path I’m on; sticking to being independent and using different ways to make money to help grow my music.

I'll share everything I do, so you can do it even better.

This way, we can help more independent artists make a living from their music and level the playing field together.

    Nico
